This was to be the day we enjoyed the beautiful, warm, sunny French Riviera. We woke up in Nice, France, in a tiny little hotel room, a block from the Mediterranean, right in the center of the old town...in the pouring rain.

The elevator up to the hotel room is ancient and miniscule.

My parents drove from Marseille to pick us up in Nice, and then we headed to Monte Carlo. In the freezing rain and hail, it did not live up to its movie reputation. Still, it was obviously a beautiful place. We walked by the casino but were too cheap to pay to get in.

The weather prevented me from really getting my camera out, but we snapped a few shots from our iPhones.  

After that, we headed west to Cannes. I've never seen such impressive yachts as in that harbor/marina. It was still pouring but we managed to explore a bit and have a great (indoor) meal of gourmet pizzas at a cafe. I got out the camera and tripod with umbrella in hand for a couple shots of the stormy beach.

Next stop was St Tropez. At this point our shoes and socks were so soaked that we had to do a little shopping. Nothing like a 12€ pair of socks that say I {heart} St. Tropez. It was too cold and windy for pictures, but I bet it's beautiful in the summer. We then went to the little town of Cassis, which has a gorgeous little marina. Again, the weather...oh well. We ended the evening with a delicious meal of moules et frites (mussels and fries) at the Vieux Port in Marseille. So good.
