We woke up on the island of Godøy. Seth and I went for a walk while the others were getting ready.

We drove though Ålesund and grabbed some pastries,

on our way to the town of Gieranger at the mouth of the most famous fjord in Norway. The Geirangerfjord is a branch of the huge Storfjord, located about 2 hours from Ålesund. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and has been named the best travel destination in Scandinavia.

We boarded a small boat for a Geirangerfjord cruise, which meanders through the fjord between sheer cliffs and numerous waterfalls on either side.

It's a bit hard to appreciate the scale in photos, but notice the tiny boats on the water relative to the sheer cliffs.

Our boat dropped us off at an otherwise unreachable trailhead, where we began our hike up the cliffs.
We made our way up the steep trail and rock stairs

enjoying the stunning views of the fjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall below.

Were they bored that I was taking too long with the camera?

Smile guys, its pretty.

Truly one of the coolest hikes I've done.

The trail took us to Skageflå, a historic mountain farm which lies approximately 250m above the fjord, with a perfect view of the seven sisters waterfall.
We had some lunch and explored the farm,

Before heading back down to catch the boat on its way back to Geiranger.

From Gieranger we drove the winding mountain roads towards Trollstigen. The higher altitudes brought colder weather, rain and fog. Felt like a Lord of the Rings setting. Some of my favorite shots of the trip:

We were tentatively excited to see the Trollstigen, a famous mountain pass featuring 11 hairpin turns descending dramatic vistas into the valley. Pictures we'd seen online looked like this:

Instead we arrived at the Trollstigen lookout to see

a blanket of white fog.

Eventually, the fog minimally opened up to show us the path of the stream as it plummeted down into the valley.

As we began descending the winding road of the Trollstigen we poked below the clouds and got a wet albeit stunning look of the valley below.

We made our way back to Alnes on Godoy, stopping for a quick hot dog at the ferry dock for dinner!
